Perceptions and Observations

Artists are perceptive. We make observations. We comment in lesser and greater ways about our observations. In our creations we reveal social turbulence, joy, frustration, pain, and a celebration of life. We contribute to history.

It’s been an enduring element of human existence and it’s as important today as it’s ever been.

Success is a voice in the conversation. The joy of creating art brings its own pleasure and satisfaction.

After years of studying at Diablo Valley College, The Art Academy, and San Francisco State, and with a BA while working full time, I found myself in the right spot at the right time for a job as a photographer with Caltrans in 1984. That was transformative. It was an affirmation of a childhood idea that I might be able to contribute to the conversation.

My art is not veiled in metaphors or analogies. I seek little things that amuse or appeal to our sense of joy and wonder. Observations―planned and serendipitous.

I search for images that are easy to miss. Portraits that might reveal a veiled cache of inner resources, strengths, or surprises. Tributes to life rushing past. Landscapes that reveal the magnificence of nature. Art in unexpected places. Images that deserve to be noticed and enjoyed.

I’m pleased with my journey, and I hope you enjoy a few of my observations.
