Hélène Paulette Côté
EXPLORING THE BOUNDARIES OF SHAPES, COLOR AND SPACE. Originally from Montréal, Hélène Paulette Côté’s work is heavily influenced by a career in advertising.Driven by the Ad credo of “think outside the box,” her current work extends beyond the panel’s edge, incorporating dowels and sculptural elements crafted from black-coated wire, thus blurring the line between two- and three-dimensional art. Her methodology is rooted in years as a silkscreen artist and graphic designer. Côté develops her ideas digitally and prints a paper stencil to transfer onto a birch panel. She can create hard-edged shapes by taping off areas and building the image with each colour. Through playful experimentation with colour, form, and dimensionality, Hélène redefines perceptions of painting and space, encouraging viewers to explore shifting relationships between light, shadow, and structure to create static and evolving work.
